Sound Waves

Sound Wave
Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing. Sound also travels through plasma.

Three characteristics are used to describe a sound wave.
  • Wavelength
  • Frequency
  • Amplitude
The more energy the sound wave has the louder the sound seems. The intensity of a sound is the amount of energy it has. You hear intensity as loudness.
